After Everest, after Wuhan, after everything that followed, I came back to the same question: what do I actually want to build with this? The answer became Sherpa Khangri Outdoor, founded in 2015, the same year the earthquake nearly ended it before it began.

Running a trekking and expedition company in Nepal means operating on the same seasonal rhythm my parents lived by — good years, and years the mountain, or politics, or a global pandemic take away from you entirely. 2020 through 2022 emptied our bookings almost completely.

What has kept the company going is the same thing that got me up Everest the second time: better preparation, better partners, and a refusal to treat the mountains as a shortcut.
